The owner of this home contacted Synergy Staging to warm up the vacant rooms and make it feel more cozy. This is a what you see is what you get property, meaning that we had to work with the spaces as is, including the wall paper. Even though we encourage our clients to make their properties as move-in ready as possible, sometimes it's just not possible for them to make any updates.
Here are some before and afters of the home:

This is the view from the front door. The room was wired for surround sound, so staging with a flat screen was important to the client.

This is a nook next to the kitchen with a fireplace. While you could show this as a breakfast nook, there is a dining room on the other side of the kitchen, so we opted to make this a cozy area where you could drink coffee or tea by the fire.

The upstairs had this funky open space, two bedrooms, and a bathroom. We staged the area as a master suite showing this space as an office.

The Master Bedroom felt much larger once it was furnished and staged.

I especially like the bedroom with the low ceiling. I've had clients not be able to imagine how to arrange their furnishings in a different setting then they are used to. Staging can really help attract more buyers.
Nicely done. I do enjoy seeing before and after shots. Vacant/empty homes can be such a challenge.
I see the challenge in this one with dated wall covering and funky spaces. You did a great job staging the rooms.
Dan ~ We've scene this type of room many times and the owners can never imagine a bedroom and want to leave it empty. It always amazes people how much better a staged room looks - and the low ceiling feels natural when the room is arranged correctly.
Karen ~ Thank you.
Beverly ~ We always like to take on these funky homes. Glad you liked it!
Nice job! What a great example of how updated furnishings can make a space look current. (Thank goodness they didn't have green shag carpeting.)
This property definitely has a challenging layout and many buyers would have been confused about possible furniture layout.
Excellent job at establishing function and flow and far increasing the saleability of the home!
David,
I am in agreement with Jackson. You were able to show an amazing purpose for each room. I like the use of the nook to sit and enjoy a cup of tea by the fireplace...and you are right the house had a dining room and there was no over head light in the nook. I really like the master bedroom and how the furniture fit so nice into the slant of the ceiling. Great job as usual David.
Nice work - I think that we all have these listings from time to time and want ideas to help the buyers feel more updated and not so empty house feeling.
Cathy ~ We were very thankful that we had beautiful hard wood floors to work with downstairs!
Jackson ~ Thanks for your comments. It's always a fun challenge to determine the best layout for staging as opposed to living - which at times are very different.
Linda ~ The nook turned out much better than expected when we first walked into the vacant home. And with no over head light a table would have felt out of place. Staging bedrooms with slanted ceilings is a must as visualizing it empty is very hard for buyers.
Jody ~ I'm glad your open to staging as a Realtor - the difference it can make in a house like this one is night and day.
David - You said it, staging made a huge difference and gets me excited about an old house we're scheduled to stage after the first of the year.
I love the way you defined that confusing space by the fireplace - the little sitting area you created was very smart use of space. And the master was a challenge too. You did a great job.

Mel ~ Thanks. These houses are always a fun challenge. Good luck on your upcoming 'old house'.
