Does Move-In Ready REALLY Matter?

While homes can certainly take longer to sell in the current market, home staging gives a property the edge it needs to succeed.   Bringing in a professional home stager allows a home owner to understand how a potential buyer will see their home.  Someone with a perspective and experience specifically geared to what the current buyer is looking for to ensure a home shows the best it possibly can.

We all know about de-cluttering, and de-personalizing, but more and more, the move-in condition of a home is additionally critical for a successful sale.  If an owner is showing a home that needs work (from as simple as painting, to a cosmetic fix, to a major eyesore) they will be at a disadvantage from the first impression.

Showing a bathroom without a mirror and backsplash won't increase the offers

Home stagers can point these areas out to a homeowner and help them make the changes necessary to create the most buyer appeal, hopefully before the home is on the market.   Remember, if your home isn't move-in ready, chances are there is another one in the neighborhood that is.  And competition has never been stronger.

You nicely answered your question in your post.  If they don't believe the written word your photographs are proof enough!  Great staging and post!

Hi David,  You have done a great job.  the last thing a buyer wants to see is a house full of 'little' projects.  Nice color purple but if my favorite color is orange, which it is, it will not go with that bathroom.  Great job neutralizing.

Michele ~ Thanks for your comments.

Janelle ~ You are right that a few little projects add up to a lot more than an owner may realize.  The buyer is probably more overwhelmed than the owner.

Melissa ~ Thanks so much.  Appreciate your feedback.

Wel there is move in ready and move in ready.   Most buyers think move in ready is perfect house that needs no work at all.   There is almost no such thing.

Showing the house in it's best condition so the buyers can make it their own is what I like to call 'move in ready'

Great job on the post.

David: Homes that are move in ready and staged sell faster than homes that are not. The buyer doesn't need to use their imagination to determine if a home is right for them. Additionally, many people lack home remodeling skills or knowledge so they don't know if they can take a home in so-so condition and make it into the home of their dreams. They're more likely to choose the home that doesn't require work, imagination or tools as the home they will purchase.

Linda ~ Thank you!

Lori ~ And we hope that owners understand the importance of staging not only for a quicker sale and higher profit margin, but the investment allows buyers to see the full potential of their home.

Virginia ~ You are right that owning a home is a never ending process of updating, maintaining, and repairing, so in that sense no home is ever perfect.  However, leaving major projects, cosmetic fixes, or simple updates to the next owners is not beneficial for a quick sale.  Thanks for your feedback.

Michelle ~ Agreed!  Appreciate your insight as always.

David, a move-in ready home will always trump the competition. That is the essence of what staging a home is all about - preparation and merchandising! Your great photos are perfect examples of the principles behind successful home staging.

Karen ~ Thanks.  We all try to show buyers the way they can live, and move-in conditions is a big part of that.

Kathy ~ Sorry you can't see the pics.  I can see them on Firefox and IE.  Hmmm... Thanks for the nice words AND the feature.

Hi David, Move in Ready. Three little words that mean "I love you" in real estate lingo.

If the property is in move in ready condition, the buyers will say I love you and put in an offer.

Easy, peasy.
